D.I.Y. Installation at a Glance
Surfaces
"Techno-rocks" can be applied to clean, sound and rigid surfaces such as brick, concrete block, concrete slab, Hebel block or similar walls. Other surfaces may be modified to become "Techno-rock" friendly by using fibrous cement sheeting or plywood substrates.
(Refer to installation guide.)
A pre-requisite for any installation is that the adhesive used in the installation must be able to bond to both the substrate and the "Techno-rock" components.
Surface preparation
Most suitable surfaces will be porous, and absorbent. These have to be "primed", or "sealed". This is a simple process, whereby a cement/sand/adhesive slurry is applied to the surface using a paint roller. Priming ensures a strong bond between the wall and the components of the "Techno-rock" veneer, and also acts as a water barrier between the environment and the wall substrate. (See "Scratch-coat" in installation guide).
Adhesive-based installation
Cement-based tile adhesives are used to install "Techno-rock" veneers, which are readily available from hardware and tiling outlets. These are powders that have to be mixed with a liquid to become an easily applied mortar-like paste. This adhesive paste is then applied to the primed wall, and also to the backs of the "Techno-rock" components. The components are then pressed into place on the wall. It's as simple as that.
Sealing
To protect a "Techno-rock" installation from dirt and stains, a sealer should be applied to the finished project.
When your project is completed, clean off all loose dust from the stone surface, using a hose and a soft brush. On internal applications, use a brush and a vacuum cleaner. Once the stone surface is deemed dry and clean, apply appropriate sealer.
